Building blocks are functionalized molecules, which are used as basic components for any chemical synthesis. Such building blocks are required in many applications in which special functional structures are required to be created, like in pharma, agriculture or cosmetics.
Evonik offers a broad range of functional building blocks and special reagents, like Alkyl Chlorides, a,w-unsaturated Olefines, TEMPO-derivatives, functional Alcohols or special Ortho Esters.
Our products can be produced with customized specifications and supplied in different suitable packagings (drums, IBCs and bulk) to ouyr customers world-wide.
Excellence in Alkyl Chlorides
Evonik is one of the leading global producers of n-Butyl Chloride and a range of other liquid, mono or di-functionalized specialty Alkyl Chlorides, like sec-Butyl Chloride or tert-Butyl Chloride, Crotyl Chloride, n-Hexyl Chloride, n-Octyl Chloride, 1,4-Dichlorobutane, 1,6-Dichlorohexan, and others Alkyl Chlorides ranging from C4 to C14.
Our Alkyl Chlorides are produced in a proprietary catalytic process using anhydrous HCl. A dedicated plant and a multiproduct plants give us the flexibility to react quickly to market needs and offer our customers reliable supply. We are also flexible in our ability to supply small and large quantities of our products.
In addition to the commercial Alkyl Chlorides mentioned, we offer custom and toll manufacturing of other Alkyl Chlorides as well. a,w-unsaturated Olefines as Crosslinking chemicals
We are a leading producer of additives for the polymer industry and offer certain special crosslinking co-monomers, like 1,7-Octadiene or Trivinyl Cyclohexane (TVCH). They are already employed in the polymerization process and act as crosslinkers in a multitude of polymers, preferentially in polyolefins, like PE or PP.
They can be applied by themselves or in a chemically modified way, e.g. after epoxidation, hydrosilation. The resulting polymers are applicable in a huge range of applications, like in crosslinked LDPE for wire and cable, in ion-exchanger resins, pharmapolymers, rubbers for tires, silicone coatings
TEMPO derivatives-catalysts for oxidation
TEMPO-derivatives are commonly employed in the pharmaceutical, agrochemical and fine chemical industries to catalyse oxidation reactions, such as converting alcohol groups to the corresponding aldehyde. The TEMPOs are used in conjunction with a primary oxidant, such as sodium hypochlorite, oxygen, or electrons. They are convenient to handle and enable much safer reaction conditions than conventional oxidation techniques.
ORTHOESTERS
Special orthoesters are widely used in synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients, as water trapping agents or in the formation of special esters.
Besides tri-/n-propyl orthoformate (TnPOF/ TiPOF) and Triethyl Orthopropionate (TEOP) it is worth mentioning Triethyl Orthoacetate (TEOA), which is an important reagent for Johnson-Claisen rearrangements.
Like all of our products, our orthoesters are not produced under GMP, but with very high specification parameters, which can be adapted to customers’ requirements.
